About the Role
We are seeking a Procurement & Supply Chain Manager (Hydro Procurement) with strong expertise in raw material sourcing, vendor management, and supply chain operations specific to battery pack manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will have experience in handling import/export operations, customs documentation, and working with international suppliers (especially China) for cells, metals, and semiconductor components.
This role is critical for ensuring uninterrupted production and efficient material flow —from vendor selection and negotiation to inventory management and cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Source and procure raw materials such as aluminium, copper, nickel, and other metals used in battery pack fabrication.
- Develop and maintain relationships with domestic and international vendors for cell supply, metal fabrication, and electronic components.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and payment terms to ensure cost-effective sourcing.
- Evaluate vendor performance regularly for quality, reliability, and compliance.
- Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to align procurement with product requirements and production schedules.
Import, Export & Customs Operations
- Manage imports from China and other regions, including cell supply chain and semiconductors.
- Handle customs clearance, HSN classification, BOE filing, and coordination with freight forwarders and CHA (Custom House Agents).
- Ensure compliance with DGFT, EXIM, and other import/export regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation for international logistics, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
- Oversee inventory planning, material forecasting, and stock optimization.
- Implement and maintain inventory management software/tools to track materials, reorders, and movement.
- Maintain an accurate record of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
- Monitor lead times and ensure timely delivery to production lines.
- Minimize material shortages and excess inventory through effective planning.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with engineering, production, and finance teams for seamless operations.
- Align procurement timelines with project schedules and production milestones.
- Support new product introduction (NPI)by sourcing materials and parts during prototyping and scaling phases.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering; MBA preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in procurement/supply chain roles within the EV, electronics, or battery manufacturing sector.
- Proven experience in import/export and customs documentation.
- Strong understanding of battery component supply chains, including cells, busbars, connectors, housings, and semiconductors.
- Knowledge of metal fabrication processes (CNC, laser cutting, bending, and surface finishing).
- Excellent vendor negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Experience implementing or working with ERP/inventory management systems.
- Strong understanding of incoterms, freight forwarding, and international logistics.
- Familiarity with cost control, supply risk mitigation, and supplier quality management.
- Ability to manage multi-vendor ecosystems and drive cost and delivery optimization.
Desirable Attributes
- Prior experience managing China-to-India supply chains.
- Exposure to semiconductor component procurement for EV battery BMS and control systems.
- Experience in setting up or scaling a supply chain for pilot to mass production.
- Knowledge of customs duty structures, FTAs, and GST implications.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
